Marcus Döring's diseases: testicular cancer and sarcoidosis

This page is the basis for information regarding Marcus Döring's diseases of testicular cancer and sarcoidosis. The intention of the following pages is to inform you about Marcus' development and provide some real-life figures and pictures related to such a patient.

Please nota bene my preface about how I see disease in general.

Marcus' current health status - as of March 10, 2005 - is:

"Getting better - and working again part-time",
after last pneumothorax in July 2004.

The following table is a short summary of the main events in chronological order.

The leading two columns' color code indicates to which disease the event relates: atypical sarcoidosis and testicular cancer - in a way as it is retrospectively suspected, since the final diagnosis was not always known at the time of the event. The latter mainly relating to the diagnosis of the atypical sarcoidosis.

confirmation of abdominal and suspicious lung metastases,
though smaller in size

May 17
day 0 of chemo-cycle 3, BEP scheme

June 13
CT scan 3: thorax and abdomen,
confirmation of abdominal metastases,
though again smaller in size,
lung suspicion no longer favoured

July 26
operation: retroperitoneal lymph node dissection,
discovery of a remaining vital tumor mass in abdominal node

August 7
CT scan 4: thorax and abdomen,
no additional suspicious nodes found

September 24
CT scan 5: thorax and abdomen,
no additional suspicious nodes found

suspicious lung locations found,
wait and see recommended

suspicious lung locations no longer existing,
no additional suspicious nodes found

July 22
CT scan 13: thorax and abdomen,
no additional suspicious nodes found

October 28
CT scan 14: thorax and abdomen,
no additional suspicious nodes found,
change of surveillance interval to 6 months
    2004

April 30
CT scan 15: thorax and abdomen,
suspicious lung location found: metastasis?
another double-check foreseen for May 18

May 18
CT scan 16: thorax,
suspicious lung location increased in size, additional one found: metastases?
discussion with doctors foreseen for the next days to evaluate options: thoracotomy, chemotherapy

May 24
Lung operation (thoracotomy),
five lung locations identified,
though definitely no metastases of the primary testicular tumor
,
but benign tumors in the lung

July 8
Sero-hemato-pneumothorax of right lung,
occured during lung function test

July 8-13
CT scans 18, 19: thorax,
remaining mass under right lung identified (7x5cm) - discussed as being result of thoracotomy and pneumothorax,
favoured diagnosis of lung tumors: symptom of an atypical sarcoidosis,
no additional suspicious nodes found

August 26
CT scan 20: thorax and abdomen,
size of remaining mass under lung decreased,
no additional suspicious nodes found

November 4
CT scan 21: thorax,
size of remaining mass under lung decreased,
no additional suspicious nodes found
    2005

March 10
CT scan 22: thorax and abdomen,
size of remaining mass under lung decreased,
no additional suspicious nodes found

Here is some additional information strongly related to the testicular cancer period:

  • Some detailled figures about blood counts: White blood cells and platelets turned out to be most affected by the chemotherapy.
  • A picture of the [photograph(s)]scar from the first operation dated February 5, 2001.
  • A picture of the [photograph(s)]scar from the operation to dissect the retroperitoneal lymph nodes dated July 26, 2001.
  • Two pictures of [photograph(s)]catheters: an arm catheter and a central venous catheter.
  • A picture of the [photograph(s)]scar from the thoracotomy operation dated May 24, 2004.

Be sure to check out the section about testicular cancer in general.
