Disease: Marcus Döring's view |
|
I would like to point out a few things before telling you more
about my disease. You may find out that I do have a strange attitude
towards being ill and being healthy:
In fact, I very much doubt that a mortal person can ever be healthy.
This is heavily related to my understanding of disease as a vis
morbi.
Vis (Lat. 1. power; 2. meaning)
Morbi, genitive of Morbus (Lat. disease)
Vis morbi - the power and meaning of disease - is my paraphrase
for the idea that symptoms are of highest value to a human being and thus
positive. Correctly understood can they be a guide and reveal a
pathway to healing.
In my opinion a good doctor should focus - while treating a disease -
more on understanding symptoms than on suppressing symptoms.
I would like to emphasize that I do not think that a medical name
could solve anything. It could only help by the fact that a clearer
view of the disease would probably mean more medical research
results. And this would thus mean more medical understanding
of what happened in the human body. All this could then be used
by a true doctor for getting the whole picture.
